Privacy Policy
Moneymalist — Expense Tracker · Last updated 21 July 2026
Moneymalist is offline-first. Your financial data is stored on your device and is never sent to any server operated by the developer. There is no account system, no cloud sync, and no analytics.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect any of your data. The developer operates no servers and has no ability to access, view, or retrieve anything you enter into the app.
Stored on your device
- Transactions (income and expenses) — amounts, dates, notes, tags
- Budgets and budget categories
- Accounts and balances
- App preferences and settings
This is held in a local database (SQLite) in the app's private storage area, which other apps on your device cannot read.
Never leaves your device
- Your financial records are not transmitted to the developer
- No advertising SDKs
- No analytics or usage-tracking SDKs
- No user account or profile on any server
2. Google Sign-In and Google Drive Backup (optional)
The app offers an optional backup feature. It is off by default and only used if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Google Sign-In identifies which Drive account to back up to. The app receives your name, email address, and profile picture. This stays on your device and is used only to show which account is signed in.
- The app requests the
drive.filescope — the narrowest Drive permission available. It grants access only to files the app itself creates. The app cannot see, read, or modify any of your other Drive files, photos, or documents. - Backups are saved to your own Google Drive. They are visible to you, and you can open or delete them yourself at any time.
- Backups travel directly between your device and Google. The developer never receives, intercepts, or stores a copy.
- Your Google account information is never shared with third parties.
You can revoke access any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
3. Device Backup Behaviour
Android can automatically back up app data to your Google account. Moneymalist deliberately excludes your financial database from this, so your transaction history is never uploaded to the cloud without you explicitly asking for it.
Cloud backup of financial data happens only through the optional Drive feature in Section 2, which you control.
4. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet / Network state | Only to upload and download your Google Drive backups |
| Notifications | Local reminders you choose to enable |
| Run at startup | To reschedule reminders after the device restarts |
| Vibration | Haptic feedback when interacting with the app |
| Biometrics / Fingerprint | Optional app lock, if you enable it |
The app does not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, SMS, call logs, or files elsewhere on your device.
Exported files (CSV, PDF) are written to the app's own private storage and are shared only if you explicitly choose to share them.
5. Purchases and Subscriptions
- All payments are processed by Google Play Billing. The developer never sees or handles your card details, billing address, or any payment information.
- The app stores only a simple flag on your device recording whether premium is unlocked.
- Subscriptions are managed through your Google Play account, where you can view, change, or cancel them at any time.
- Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund policy.
6. Third-Party Services
- Expo / React Native — the frameworks the app is built with. They do not collect your data in this app.
- Google Play Services — required for Google Sign-In, Drive backup, and purchases. Google may collect standard information such as crash reports and basic install data according to your device settings and Google's own privacy policy.
- Google Drive API — used only for the optional backup feature above.
The app integrates no advertising networks, no marketing trackers, and no third-party analytics services.
7. Deleting Your Data
On your device
- Delete individual transactions, budgets, or accounts inside the app
- Or remove everything: Android Settings → Apps → Moneymalist → Storage → Clear data
- Or uninstall the app, which removes all local data
Backups in your Google Drive
- Open Google Drive, find files named
backup_*.bk, and delete them - Revoke Drive access at myaccount.google.com/permissions
Since the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing on our side to delete. If you have questions about deletion, contact us at the address in Section 10 and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
Moneymalist is not directed at children under 13. The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children. No such data reaches the developer, as the app transmits nothing to us.
9. Security
- Your data is stored in the app's private storage area, isolated from other apps by Android.
- Sensitive values are held in encrypted device storage.
- An optional biometric lock can require fingerprint or face unlock to open the app.
- If you use Drive backup, the security of those files is governed by Google's practices and your Google account settings.
No method of electronic storage is completely secure, but because your data never travels to a developer-operated server, the risk surface is limited to your own device and your own Google account.
